The Churchill Visit

So by now you've realized that the Churchills visited us in Da Plains a week or so ago. Good times. Here are some of my favorite shots of the week.

Funky Little Lady

Seriously, Let's Be Serious

Geez, it's about time.

My Two Little Men

Nana, are you gasping? Aren't they darling???

Mindy Came To Visit; AKA: Buck Is The Man

Oh, how I loved her being here - just being near me. She came early in the week and we asked Trevor to take some pictures of us. Good times.
Thank the deer. Buck is the man!

I took one on the 20th, but I'm not posting it.

Mountain Baby Blankets Update

I got an email last week from K at the Christian Appalachian Project with a little update for us.

330 blankets

... that's how many have been received so far. And since her count, you ladies have shipped 50 more than that.

God is so good.
I am sitting here, absolutely stunned at the gravity this project has. WE ARE CHANGING LIVES, one set of toes at a time. God bless each of you helping with this project.

Remember, there is no deadline for the need in Appalachian Kentucky. If you still want to help by making a baby blanket, please contact me by way of comment here, or via email at racheljcox @ yahoo . com (close spaces).

Thank you.
Be proud of yourselves!

A little love from Springwater Designs.

Sewing The Grid - Photo A Day: July 18

I'm quite proud of this one. It's a coin quilt measuring somewhere between lap and twin size. It will be perfect for my BeckAY to cuddle under. And I suppose her dog Buckeye will love it, too. It's built to handle a good washing. I hope she cuddles it around her and feels me hugging her tight.

I tried something new with this quilt and I'm so glad I did. First, I didn't use a pattern. Well, that's not new with me, but I just decided how to do this coin quilt as I went along. I backed it with remnants and machine sewed the binding that I made. The big risk was topquilting a grid pattern on top. I didn't measure. I just...sewed, criss-crossing wherever I pleased. Some of the rows are straight. Many of them are not, but I don't care. I'll be doing this grid again!

In the interest of keeping it real, I should tell you that when I sat down to topquilt this thing the first time, I forgot to switch my presser foot to my walking foot. I didn't realize my error until I had half of the thing quilted. It looked terrible. I couldn't figure out why. So many puckers. Ugly. I was so disappointed. Then I was on the phone with Mindy and the dang lightbulb went off. CRAP. After I got over feeling stupid and screamed a hefty 'MATRIARCH AND FORNICATION!' (23 times) I started picking the stitches out. It took me almost a week to remove all of the stitching, re-pin, and get the guts up to try it again.

I'm so glad I did. I'm quite proud of this one.

Hope she likes it.

Is it wrong of me to love this second picture? Man, I love it.
To me this portrait says I am sexy, soft and delicate, but still funky. That I am patient, generous, and creative. It says I am a good mother and a strong woman. I think it also says I will kick your ass if necessary. I love it.
